Kevin and Rien - The instructors
The Story Behind Our Community Service Program
From a young age, both Kevin and Rien have been interested in STEM subjects. Both started VEX IQ together during the 3rd and 4th grade and have also been to worlds. Together, they've decided to revolutionize Sandpiper robotics education and hope to pass on their knowledge to the next generation of innovators.

Our parents are people who have helped us consistently in multiple different ways. Kevin's dad, Jerry Li has mentored both of us and even helped us get to the top of California's standings. Rien's father, Rohit Gupta, and his company have helped sponsor the website and create opportunities for us to make this program happen. Without our mothers, Mayuri Panchal and Hongmei Sun, who have supported us and kept us going through competitions, we would not be where we are today. The parent's motivations have shifted us for the better, and as children, we want to help pass down the knowledge we obtained from our parents and everyone around us to the community for the greater good.

So what do we do now?
Our commitments for Robotics
Outside of Vex IQ, Rien and Kevin pursue many different projects. Rien enjoys Python, Web Design, and Video Editing, which he uses to create his own projects. Kevin studies in various STEM subjects to prepare for competitions such as USACO and USAJMO. Rien has also qualified for worlds in VRC, a more advanced version of VEX. In March 2022, Kevin and Rien went to a bowling alley and discussed what they could do in robotics. Rien talked about how he was interested in mentoring a Robotics team, and Kevin talked about how he wanted to do a really big project. We both struck gold, realizing how we could help Sandpiper Robotics with our skills combined. Here we are today, mentoring and educating Sandpiper students, and our own Robotics team.
